BabyPleed
We at PLEED started BabyPLEED at Aldlân community centre in January 2021.
In a nine-month project, we are working with residents of the Aldlân neighbourhood to make baby blankets from wool that would otherwise be shipped for nothing to China to be used as filler for car seats. PLEED thinks this is a waste! That is why last year PLEED processed all the wool from the Leeuwarden sheep flock, which grazes in the Groene Ster, into plaids. Experienced and brand-new spinners, crocheters, knitters, weavers and felters turned the wool into a beautiful product! We can do the same in Aldlân! But then 'one size smaller'.
We have furs from sheep grazing in Leeuwarden and the surrounding area. Their wool disappears abroad... unless... we turn it into a beautiful, sustainable and handmade product! A BABY PLEED! As a wish for a long, happy and sustainable life, we give these baby blankets to newborns in the Aldlân neighbourhood: after all, the future belongs to the young!
Can you crochet, knit, weave, felt and/or spin? Or would you like to learn one of these beautiful crafts? Do you also think it's a shame that a beautiful raw material like wool goes abroad for nothing? Then sign up for our nine-month neighbourhood project.
