Discussion groups and peer contact for people with specific mental health vulnerabilities
At Ixta Noa, you can participate in various discussion groups where you can talk about your experiences in a safe and open environment. You do this with others who are struggling with similar themes. By sharing in a group, you can find recognition and acknowledgement, which can help you in your recovery.
The Praktijkhuis in Leeuwarden currently runs the self-help group Eetproproblematiek and several external groups of, among others, Narcotics Anonymous, ADF Foundation, AGOG Foundation, Depression Association, Yes We Can and Al Anon. In the self-help group, a participant learns to overcome shame and open up about their (mental) vulnerability or problem. Participation in a self-help group can motivate them to change their behaviour. Understanding and acknowledging the problem plays a major role in this.
In the self-help group Eating Problems, together with two volunteers by experience, we zoom in on the eating problems a participant experiences in eight meetings. It is discussed with peers what the participant is up against and what tools he or she can use to support him or herself. Additional information or questions ((e.g. about the start and time of the group) about the group can be requested from Jildou or Tanja. Information about the external groups can be found directly on the website or, if necessary, can be requested via Jildou or Tanja.
