General data protection regulation (AVG)
The most important law dealing with the protection of personal data is the General Data Protection Regulation (AVG). This European law applies throughout the European Union (EU). Governments, businesses and associations must comply with the AVG. The AVG has given organisations that collect and use personal data more responsibilities. And the people whose data they use have been given more rights. Organisations must design their systems and processes accordingly. Are organisations not complying? Then they can be fined. More information can be found on the website of the Personal Data Authority.
