Confidential Advisors (CA) (male/female pair)
Everyone deserves a safe sporting environment.
At BV Leeuwarden, we believe it is important that members, volunteers and parents feel comfortable and listened to. That is why we are looking for two confidential advisors (VCPs) who are willing to fulfil this important role together.
Ideally, you should form a pair (for example, a man and a woman), so that members can always approach the person with whom they feel most at ease.
Who are we looking for?
We are looking for two people who:
- To be honest, empathetic and discreet
- Being a good listener and inspiring confidence
- Being able to act carefully and independently
- Feeling at ease when discussing sensitive topics
- Be involved in (or have an affinity with) our association
- It would be an advantage if you formed a diverse and accessible duo (for example, a man and a woman).
No experience is required — attitude and reliability are what matter most.
What does the organisation offer the volunteer?
What do we offer?
- An important and meaningful role within the association
- The opportunity to help create a safe sporting environment
- Support and training opportunities (e.g. through the association or NOC*NSF)
- A volunteer allowance (to be agreed)
- Flexibility in how time is spent
- The opportunity to fulfil the role together and to coordinate with one another
Practical information
- This is a voluntary role
- A Certificate of Good Conduct is required for this role
- You will work independently, but will liaise with the board where necessary
- Confidentiality is paramount (with clear boundaries in accordance with guidelines)
What does the organisation ask of the volunteer?
What does a confidential counsellor do?
As a VCP, you are the first point of contact within the club for anyone who needs help with anything. You:
- Offers a listening ear for any questions, concerns or issues
- Helps to consider possible next steps
- Refers people to appropriate support or organisations where necessary
- Helps to encourage discussion about social safety
- Contributes to prevention and raising awareness within the club
You’re there for players, parents, trainers, coaches, volunteers and the board.
Important to note: You do not investigate reports or resolve issues yourself, but help people to take the right steps.
How does this role relate to the complaints committee?
At BV Leeuwarden, we have both a confidential advisor and a complaints committee.
- The VCP is the accessible first point of contact for confidential discussions
- The complaints committee is responsible for the formal submission and handling of complaints
The VCP therefore mainly helps by listening, offering advice and referring people on, rather than formally handling complaints.
When do people come to see you?
Topics could include, for example:
- Bullying or exclusion
- Inappropriate behaviour or harassment
- Aggression or inappropriate behaviour
- Situations in which someone does not feel safe
