Hosts and hostesses at the Leeuwarden Drop-in Centre

The Aanloophuis Leeuwarden is a place with a homely atmosphere where people can meet over a cup of coffee or tea. We make time for a chat or a game. We believe that eating together is important and enjoyable, which is why we also offer light meals and hot meals. The Aanloophuis is a Christian initiative run by the churches in Leeuwarden, and our approach is therefore based on charity and 'being there' without judgement. People come first. Our guests are people who are homeless or who do have a roof over their heads but are facing difficulties in other areas of life. For example, due to loneliness, mental health issues or financial difficulties. 

We offer a friendly working environment where teamwork and caring for our guests – as well as for one another – are of the utmost importance. We welcome your own ideas and initiatives, because we’re all in this together and everyone brings their own experiences and knowledge to the table. That’s the real strength of volunteering!

We ensure that all volunteers are given time to settle in and that they receive training. This includes training on (social) safety within your team, dealing with challenging behaviour, as well as other relevant topics that help you carry out your duties effectively. We also provide annual training in CPR and fire safety.

We’re always delighted to welcome (new) volunteers! We don’t ask for much, but it’s important that you’re at least 18 years old and enjoy interacting with people. It’s also important that you can be flexible when dealing with people who may have very different views or lifestyles to what you’re used to. You’re a team player, as we always work in teams.
The Aanloophuis is a Christian initiative; this does not mean that you have to be Christian yourself, but it does mean that you can support our values of equality and compassion. 

You are available once every three weeks. (For the Saturday teams Working hours are from 12.30 pm to 4.00 pm. For the Sunday teams (Services are held alternately on mornings from 10.30 am to 1.00 pm or from 1.00 pm to 4.00 pm.)
