Rickshaw driver in Stiens
A little wind through the hair
We want to get started in Stiens and the surrounding area. We’ve made the necessary contacts. Now we just need a few keen cyclists.
Everyone has the right to feel the wind in their hair. Two local residents with reduced mobility are taken out for a bike ride. A quick look around the old neighbourhood, a spot of cycling with the wind in your hair. Connecting with people, out and about with a volunteer. A warm-hearted yet simple gesture that almost anyone can do. At Fietsen Alle Jaren, life doesn’t stop at a particular disability or age; instead, we embrace what every person has to offer through something as simple as cycling. A rickshaw driver, or “rickshaw pilot” as we call it internationally, is a volunteer who is available for half a day a week to take two passengers out for a ride in the rickshaw. You’re, of course, welcome to volunteer for more half-days a week. Rest assured: the rickshaw is fitted with electric pedal assistance!
What does the organisation offer the volunteer?
Training
As a rickshaw driver, you’ll receive comprehensive training from experienced drivers. We’ll support you every step of the way until you’re ready to take passengers out on your own. We have a booking system that keeps track of who’s cycling where, and we’re keen to organise our own rickshaw in Stiens as soon as possible. You’ll be part of the initial group in Stiens – there’s plenty of enthusiasm!!
What does the organisation ask of the volunteer?
You love cycling and people. You have an affinity with people with disabilities or older people.
You can take on the responsibility of taking one or two fellow residents with reduced mobility out for a ride in the rickshaw.
Just to reassure you, the rickshaw is electrically assisted.
