KDC de Vlieger – Does swimming make you as happy as it does me?

We are looking for someone to help a 13-year-old boy from the adolescent group at KDC de Vlieger, who attends the Middelséhiem day centre in Westeinde, to go swimming at the Kalverdijkje every week (Tues/Wed) from 10.30 am to 12.30 pm to go swimming with him at the Kalverdijkje. You’ll also help him get changed and support him when you’re getting in and out of the pool. In the water, you will supervise him and carry out exercises, so it is important that you are in good physical condition. He uses a wheelchair, but can walk short distances with assistance. The swimming sessions will always take place under the supervision of a physiotherapist.

After the first meeting, you have a cup of coffee or tea together and if there is a good click from both sides, a VOG is applied for and a volunteer agreement is drawn up. You will be insured during your voluntary work and will also receive a Christmas package, a small gift on Care Day and Volunteer Day. In addition, you will receive the volunteer newsletter and, if applicable, you will be entitled to a travel allowance.

The boy you will be swimming with has severe multiple disabilities and a developmental age of about 9 months. Being able to empathise with his world of experience is therefore important.
By arrangement, you will also ride with him in the taxi from the day care centre to Kalverdijkje and back.
