Describer of film, video and audio

The Frisian Film & Audio Archive is responsible for collecting, preserving and making available films, videos and audio recordings made in and about Friesland. Our archive was established in 1988, making it the oldest regional audiovisual archive in the Netherlands. 

Our collection now comprises over 25,000 unique audiovisual media items dating from the beginning of the last century to the present day. The images and sounds in our collection come from professional filmmakers, heritage organisations, Frisian museums, cultural institutions, government bodies and private individuals. We have working equipment and the expertise to operate it for the most common film, video and audio formats that were in use before the digital era. This enables us to view and digitise (almost) all collections brought to us. In Friesland, we act as a hub and centre of expertise for audiovisual heritage and collaborate extensively with other heritage organisations, cultural institutions, government bodies, educational institutions and (regional) communities.

We currently have vacancies for several volunteers. You can get involved by reviewing and describing newly acquired films, videos and/or audio recordings. We are also looking for people who enjoy cataloguing large collections.
