Amaryllis Neighbourhood Mediation is for residents of the municipality of Leeuwarden who are having problems or disputes with their neighbours or with someone in the neighbourhood.

As a neighbourhood mediator, you help residents to discuss conflicts and irritations with one another. You support neighbours in finding a solution that both parties can agree on, so that the quality of life and community relations in the neighbourhood improve.

Your duties will include:

  • Conducting discussions with residents who are experiencing a conflict or disagreement.
  • Preparing and facilitating mediation meetings between neighbours.
  • Encouraging residents to come up with their own agreements and solutions.
  • Working with other neighbourhood mediators and the neighbourhood mediation coordinator.
  • Taking part in peer review, training and follow-up meetings.

For this role, we are looking for volunteers who:

  • An interest in people and different ways of life.
  • Being a good listener and remaining impartial.
  • Treating differing opinions and backgrounds with respect.
  • Have good communication skills.
  • Handling confidential information in a reliable, discreet and careful manner.
  • Be prepared to attend the basic training and meetings.
  • Being able to work independently and collaborate effectively.
  • Be available for meetings, mediation sessions and consultations for a few hours a month on average.

Through your efforts, you help residents reconnect with one another and contribute to a pleasant living environment for everyone.
