Sociable hiker (m/f) wanted

Sociable hiker (m/f) wanted

Description

Every week on Thursday mornings at 10.oo, the walking group for young adults starts at the entrance of Blokhuispoort. About 5 to 6 residents walk along each time. The walking group is aimed at young adults (aged 18 to about 30) who want to get more exercise, socialise and get a healthy start to the day.

In the group, sociability is important; everyone is welcome. After the hour-and-a-half walk, we have a drink at the Blokhuispoort work site. The walking group was started together with residents and the neighbourhood team and now we are looking for a volunteer.

They are looking for one or more volunteers to ensure that this walking group remains an ongoing activity that current residents and new residents enjoy attending. The duties of the volunteer are:

  • In consultation with the participants, decide which walking route to walk.
  • New participants received.
  • Manage group app where participants are reminded and invited to the weekly walk.
  • Engage with residents and encourage conversations where appropriate.
  • Pick up signals and discuss them with the neighbourhood team where necessary.

What does the organisation offer the volunteer?

Volunteering where you do something meaningful for others and at the same time enjoy yourself in the outdoors. The neighbourhood team provides a good training period and remains available for questions. How often you would like to help, e.g. every week or once every fortnight, etc., will be determined in consultation.

What does the organisation ask of the volunteer?

We are looking for someone who can work independently, is sociable and has a strong (walking) personality. You know how to pick up signals and can discuss them, taking initiative on actions while leaving responsibility where it belongs.

Many participants of the walking group have a form of autism. Knowledge of this is welcome, but not a requirement.
