Cooking volunteer Hospice

Cooking volunteer Hospice

Description

Hospice Marcelis Goverts Gasthuis offers guidance, care and hospitality to people in the last phase of life, in which we strive to maintain quality of life with a human approach, personal attention and good pain and symptom management.

Will you come and cook at the Hospice?

The cooking group provides hot meals in the afternoon for the residents. This cooking group has 16 volunteers, 2 of whom have been cooks. The other cooking volunteers just like cooking and enjoy cooking in this special place. We are looking to strengthen our team.

What does a day look like?

You will first visit the flats at 9.30am to note the wishes of the residents, up to 6. The residents can then specify what they like and would like to eat again. After this, you put together the menus, sometimes they can be combined, and you get the fresh groceries. Non-fresh groceries are brought 3 times a week. Then you prepare and serve the meals. After the meal, everything is cleaned and tidied up again. This lasts until about 13.30. Would you like to cook together with someone? That is also possible after consultation.

A la carte can also be a simple pudding.

A resident's wish is the main focus; as a volunteer, you do not have to prepare exotic or culinary meals. This is a home garden and kitchen meal. Real old-fashioned porridge, bavarois and puddings are often much appreciated. Sometimes some inventiveness is needed to make a small portion on a plate a resident can still enjoy as appealing as possible.

What does the organisation offer the volunteer?

The hospice is a special place to work

The human contact with the residents is very important. The residents are in their last phase of life, and yet there is also a lot of fun in the hospice. Cooking at the hospice also gives you the opportunity to sometimes cook a little differently from what you are used to at home. As a cooking volunteer, you have a lot of contact with care volunteers Nurses carers and the 2 vptz coordinators. Our slogan is "Be there" and you do that together.

Of course, you will be properly trained and first rotate in a number of times. If you start cooking independently, a VOG will be applied for, and you can schedule yourself on the days when it suits you best.

There are training opportunities , parties and theme meetings for all volunteers. There is a work meeting 3 times a year.
