Year Group Tutor at Baljée Weekend School

Baljée Weekend School offers curious children in Years 7 and 8 and Year 1 supplementary education centred on talent development and career guidance. Through inspiring guest lessons and hands-on experience, pupils discover their talents, are introduced to a range of careers and broaden their outlook on the future.

The weekend school holds lessons every other Sunday. The school year begins after the autumn half-term and runs until the summer holidays. Each group follows its own programme, which means that pupils can move up to the next group at the end of the school year. There, they will have a new set of guest lessons. 

To ensure our teaching days run smoothly, we are looking for a committed and proactive year group tutor who can maintain an overview, build relationships and create a safe learning environment. You will work alongside coaches who are also permanently assigned to the year group.

• As a volunteer at Weekendschool Baljée, you’ll be part of an enthusiastic team that is passionately committed to supporting the target group. 
• You will receive guidance and support from the coordinator where necessary.
• There is the option to take part in joint training sessions, courses and peer review sessions.
• During your voluntary role, you’ll have the opportunity to develop your skills in supporting children. 
• During the course days, you’ll be introduced to professions and organisations that you might not otherwise be so quick to walk into.
• A monthly fixed-sum allowance for volunteers.
• Travel expenses reimbursed by arrangement.

As a year group tutor, you are the main point of contact for a year group (Year 7, Year 8 or Year 1). You ensure that school days run smoothly, maintain contact with parents and help to foster a positive learning environment.

• You are responsible for ensuring that guest lessons and teaching days run smoothly.
• You’ll maintain active contact with parents and act as their first point of contact.
• You will ensure a safe, positive and stimulating educational environment.
• You support pupils and take a solution-focused approach.
• You identify any issues relating to pupils and discuss these with colleagues and other relevant parties.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and reliable year group tutor who will play a key role in our year groups and in the development of the young people. 

• You have experience in education, social work, youth work or a similar field. Alternatively, you are a student studying to become a primary school teacher, a social work student or a student of educational science.
• You have an affinity for leading groups.
• You have strong communication skills.
• You have pedagogical insight and the ability to create structure and a sense of calm.
• You can submit a Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG).
