Vlietzone neighbourhood

The Vlietzone in Leeuwarden is a vibrant and diverse neighbourhood where students, young families, single people, older people and new Dutch residents live together. This diversity enriches the neighbourhood, but it also means that residents do not always meet one another naturally. Young people are growing up in a society characterised by significant social pressure, individualisation and the allure of quick success. That is precisely why it is important to invest in initiatives that bring people together and give young people the chance to discover their talents.

The neighbourhood boasts many distinctive buildings and charming little streets, making it an ideal film location. For example, we could film thrilling chase scenes in Saskia- and Rembrandtdwarsstraat, stage a romantic encounter between the main characters in Vijverpark, or shoot a scene in which all the local residents come together for a neighbourhood party at the Welgelegen community centre.

Together, we’re making the film
Residents are involved in the making of the film, both in terms of their ideas and their practical contribution, under the guidance of professional filmmakers.
Everyone chooses a role that suits their talents and interests. This could be in front of the camera, but also behind the scenes. Participants can contribute in roles such as:

A great team – apart from that, everything is done on a voluntary basis; expenses to be agreed upon

• actor or extra;
• camera, lighting or sound assistant;
• production or set assistant;
• photographer or creator of the ‘making-of’ video;
• volunteer during the filming days;
• support role in communications and promotion.
Every contribution is valuable.
