Description

The aim of the Leeuwarden World Shop Foundation (hereinafter referred to as 'the Foundation') is to contribute to improving the living conditions of its products through the sale of fair trade products. Through this objective, the foundation aims to promote activities that stimulate changes in world trade structures and thus achieve a just world society. The foundation does not aim to make a profit.

The foundation seeks to achieve this goal through a world shop selling Fair Trade products and providing information on fair trade, development cooperation and world trade structures.

The foundation has a board consisting of at least three members, including at least a chairman, a secretary and a treasurer. Board members are appointed by the board. Board members are appointed for a 3-year term, after which they are immediately eligible for reappointment. An average of 25 volunteers are associated with the foundation for maintaining the shop.

Chairman's job description

Board members must - given their work, interests and experience - be able to make a concrete contribution to achieving the foundation's objective. Board members receive no remuneration for their work. However, expenses for performing relevant and necessary for their language are reimbursed.

What does the organisation ask of the volunteer?

Administrative

  • The chairman is 'the face' of the foundation and represents it both within the foundation and externally. In doing so, the chairman conveys the vision and ambition of the foundation.
  • Provides leadership to the board. Ensures good distribution of tasks within the board and clear communication within the organisation.
  • Makes substantive contributions to policy-making based on the World Shop's direction, day-to-day business, conjuncture, financial development, cooperative relations, etc.
  • Actively seeks opportunities for (new) activities that fit the foundation's wants and needs.
  • Encourages and values volunteers and contributes to the promotion of expertise of board members and other volunteers.

Operational

  • Leads the meeting of the board. This includes preparing for the meeting, going through all agenda items and ensuring full and accurate reporting.
  • Oversees implementation of decisions taken. If a particular decision is implemented by someone else, the chairman should check whether it is actually done.
  • Develops and maintains a network and cooperative relations with relevant organisations, companies and other associations/foundations within the municipality or region.
