Honorary Chair of the Clients’ Council
Are you socially committed, a true connector, and keen to help raise awareness of homelessness? Then we’re looking for you! We’re seeking a volunteer chairperson for our clients’ council, for an average of 15 to 20 hours a month. At Wender, we believe it is important that clients are able to have a say in decisions that affect them. The clients’ council represents their interests and ensures that their voices are heard.
What will you do?
The clients’ council operates at two levels: within the steering group and at local level. As chair, you will be involved at both levels. Together with the Client Council, you will hold discussions with senior management and the board, maintain contact with local Client Council members and formulate recommendations. You will also consult regularly with various parties within Wender, attend induction days for new staff and, upon request, take part in job interviews. You will be supported in this by the administrative secretary.
About Wender
In the lives of the people we work with, there’s often a whole host of issues. Homelessness, domestic violence, addiction, mental health problems or debt. For them, getting through each day safely is a real struggle.
We provide safe accommodation, peace and structure. This gives people the space to turn their lives around and work towards a better future. Every year, our 650 staff members support around 2,800 people in becoming stronger and more capable.
What does the organisation offer the volunteer?
- The opportunity to make a difference in people’s lives and foster greater understanding within society.
- An informal and engaged working atmosphere.
- A volunteer allowance and an allowance for travel and expenses.
- Support from the administrative secretary of the clients’ council.
What does the organisation ask of the volunteer?
You have a demonstrable commitment to social issues and an understanding of the circumstances, challenges and needs of people who are homeless or living on the streets. These include, for example, debt, addiction or mental health issues.
You can contribute ideas on policy and the quality of care from the clients’ perspective. You are a bridge-builder who brings clients together within the council and helps them to realise their full potential.
In addition:
- Are you approachable, a good listener, and do you create a safe environment in which councillors and their constituents feel able to speak their minds?.
- Do you have good meeting skills and an understanding of policy processes?.
- Are you available for an average of 15 to 20 hours a month?.
