Humanitas Support in Grief and Loss
Grieving and loss processing takes a lot of energy. Sometimes you find yourself completely lost. We want you to know that you are not there alone. A Support in Grief volunteer will help you and show understanding.
After the loss of a loved one, it can help to talk to peers about your experiences. This can be done through personal conversations with a volunteer or in a fellow sufferers' group.
Volunteers
Humanitas volunteers can support you in your personal loss process. These volunteers have experience of personal loss themselves and are trained to offer you the support you need. What they have in common is their ability to listen carefully and their understanding and time for you. You can trust them to keep your privacy very confidential.
Contact with fellow sufferers
If enough applications are received, Humanitas will start a group of fellow sufferers. People from other Frisian municipalities are also welcome to participate.
The group consists of six to eight people and meets about eight times under the guidance of two volunteers. During the meetings, we talk about the feelings and emotions involved in a loss and how to cope with it. It is precisely the mutual recognition that can give a lot of support to the group participants. The meetings start as soon as a group has been formed and suitable dates and times have been agreed.
It is also possible to request a series of face-to-face meetings. A volunteer will offer you support and a listening ear.
