Media Art Friesland
The Media Art Friesland Foundation presents contemporary art to a wide and diverse audience in Leeuwarden. Media Art Friesland's main activity is the annual festival LUNA, consisting of the programme sections LUNA Young Masters, LUNA Nights and LUNA Currents.
Within LUNA Young Masters (formerly the Media Art Festival), our main focus is on talent development and presenting up-and-coming talent from home and abroad. We like to offer experimental space and exposure to artists and seek new organisational collaborations with partner institutions.
Since 2016, we have also taken to public spaces massively with the LUNA Nights (formerly LUNA Urban Night Adventure). We present light, sound and performance art by makers from the region and by leading international artists at numerous locations in the beautiful city centre of Leeuwarden, reaching a very large and diverse audience.
Under the name LUNA Currents, we will organise a wide fringe programme of themed evenings, industry meetings, workshops and meeting opportunities during the festival for everyone who feels interested and inspired, from artists and curators to school classes and enthusiastic visitors.
Besides these larger activities, we are present throughout the year with smaller actions, workshops and collaborative projects, including in international locations. Cultural institutions, companies and artists regularly call on our expertise for advice and concept development. We gladly help regional artists find international partners and are found by initiatives from all over Europe, and sometimes from beyond, as cooperation partners.
