Vrijheidswijk Neighbourhood Greening Team

A green neighbourhood, what could that look like? Play nature; places where we can meet and learn from and about nature; fewer tiles and more (native) flowers and plants in façade and tree gardens; space for bees and butterflies to spread through the neighbourhood; protection against heat, drought, and flooding and more health and connection through the greenery around us. Can you see this for yourself? Or do you ever think about what an urban environment could look like if we gave nature more space?

With the support of and in collaboration with the Neighbourhood Panel and Amaryllis, we are finding out who would like to join a team of Neighbourhood Greeners in the Vrijheidswijk. The aim is to brighten up the streetscape with green tree pits, façade gardens and other lovely ideas that we come up with together. That way, come spring, we can enjoy more nature in the neighbourhood ourselves, whilst helping bumblebees, solitary bees, caterpillars, beetles and butterflies to find a habitat.

What does the organisation offer the volunteer?

Want to help, or think along? Then get in touch with us! Doing green together works as a bond. Green knowledge is not necessary, a bit of interest and motivation is enough. We learn from nature and from each other!

We have a Neighbourhood Greening WhatsApp group where we can chat and make arrangements with one another; please get in touch with Raphaelle if you’d like to join.

We will make something beautiful together:

  • Sharing knowledge;
  • Inspiring and fun meetings;
  • Let’s create a green and flower-filled streetscape in our neighbourhood!

What does the organisation ask of the volunteer?

Initially, we sit down together to work out our ideas, then we move on to action. We involve the neighbourhood, housing association and/or municipality.

Taking action means getting started with greening initiatives, such as sowing seeds in tree pits or planting façade gardens. We can decide for ourselves how often we do this and plan accordingly.
