Language volunteers wanted for Ukrainians!

From Solidair Friesland, we provide various activities for the residents of Ukrainian emergency shelter locations. There are four emergency accommodation locations within the municipality of Leeuwarden, where there is still a lot of new inflow. We offer activities for these people, including language lessons.

You can choose between teaching language to a group or working as a language buddy.

As a language buddy, you are available once a week for one hour to learn Dutch with your language buddy. For this you receive a Dutch book at A1 level. This can of course also be done over a cup of coffee or a walk. This is entirely up to you and your buddy. The aim is to help your buddy progress with the Dutch language, focusing mainly on learning new words and speaking. After all, grammar is not going to buy you a courgette! 

AAs a language volunteer, you will teach a group of 5-15 Ukrainians. You do this by means of a lesson plan that you receive from us. You are available at a fixed time every week for one hour to give this lesson. You prepare this lesson yourself on the basis of our lesson plan. If you have your own ideas for a lesson, that is of course welcome.  

The ultimate goal is to help the residents of the Ukrainian emergency shelter with their Dutch. The focus here is on speaking and understanding sentences and words. 

You will receive guidance from the project officer and can always turn to him if you run into something. Volunteer meetings will be organised, in which we evaluate and carry out assignments and exercises together. You will also receive a t-shirt from us, so that you are highly visible!

You will also receive materials and a roadmap for teaching.

For language buddies, we ask that you spend one hour once a week on a day of your choice practising the Dutch language with a regular buddy. You discuss the day and time with your buddy. 

For language volunteer, we ask that you teach a one-hour lesson once a week at a fixed time. We ask that you prepare these yourself using our lesson plan.
