Give a child a second home

If parents are (temporarily) overwhelmed due to illness or for any other reason, it can be beneficial for a child to spend part of a day each week or every two weeks with another family. This allows the child to receive the love and attention they need, whilst providing temporary relief for the parents. A support family offers the opportunity for a child or young person to take part in their daily family life. This is arranged in consultation and depends on what the support family is willing to offer and what the child needs.

Host families can be single people, families with or without children, or grandparents. The important thing is that they are willing to open their hearts and homes and to give a child positive attention.

A Certificate of Good Conduct (VOG) will be applied for (free of charge) and you will receive a short preparatory training session. During the matching process, both the support family and the family seeking support will receive assistance from Humanitas.

About the organisation
Humanitas Leeuwarden is a voluntary organisation that aims to help people who cannot manage on their own (for a while). Based on humanistic values, Humanitas provides services through various people-to-people activities and projects that contribute to increasing everyone's livelihood. We connect people without making any distinction in origin, religion or culture. Working with volunteers and volunteering gives great satisfaction and appreciation.

Guidance and support during the pairing.

Commitment of 2–4 hours per week or every two weeks.
