Are you our new debt support volunteer?

More and more people are struggling with their finances. They can no longer sort things out on their own and are getting into debt. They need someone who will think things through with them, offer practical help and offer encouragement. A support person who doesn’t start with ‘it’s your own fault, tough luck’, but listens patiently when they talk about their worries. These worries go beyond just finances. Sometimes, all that’s needed is for you to be a listening ear. And sometimes, you’ll work together to find suitable help for these other worries. Are you that caring friend?

Why SchuldHulpMaatje?
Anyone facing (imminent) debt rarely manages to get out of it on their own. So why not lend a helping hand? Everyone deserves a second chance. We call this charity and base it on Biblical values. If that resonates with you, then you understand our vision. SchuldHulpMaatje offers expert support and guidance from volunteers to people facing financial difficulties. This complements the work of professional counsellors.

Debt Help Mate. Something for you?
A buddy helps someone get their finances in order – and keeps them that way! It’s important that a buddy gives personal attention and can motivate them to keep going when things get tough. ‘Together we can do it’ – that’s our guiding principle. And it works. All across the country, people are managing to stay debt-free thanks to the help of a mentor. You make the difference! Has this sparked your interest? Then you could be our new mentor! Sign up for an introductory meeting.

What does the organisation offer the volunteer?

During our mentoring evenings, we share our experiences with one another. This way, you learn from each other and others can learn from you. We regularly invite guest speakers from organisations you’ll encounter in the sector to these evenings. These might include, for example, the CJIB, Kredietbank Nederland, a guardian, a health insurer, etc.

SchuldHulpMaatje invests in you. You take part in the three-day buddy training. This takes place on three different days, not consecutive. There is also the annual in-service training via e-learning.

In addition, regular contact with the coordinator is possible. The coordinator endeavours to provide as much support as possible with any queries the mentor may have during the programme. The coordinator can also be there to listen to the mentors.

What does the organisation ask of the volunteer?

  • The opportunity to use your knowledge to help people with financial problems solve them. Helping them become self-reliant (again).
  • We expect you to be able to commit to SchuldHulpMaatje for at least two years. Many volunteers have been with us for much longer. We hope you will be one of them.
  • You are the confidant of someone in a vulnerable position
  • You feel committed to our target group
  • You are willing to make structural time available
  • You want to attend the three-day buddy training and annual refresher training with e-learning
