Wanted: Buddies for ex-prisoners and people with forensic titles

Would you like to make a difference in the life of someone in need of counselling? Become a buddy and support ex-prisoners in their reentry or people with a forensic title in their counselling programme in the Province of Friesland, about 2 to 3 hours a week. 

As a volunteer, you help with practical matters, offer a listening ear and contribute to smoother reintegration or counselling, depending on the situation. You do this from the MEF project (Buddies Ex-prisoners Friesland), set up by Solidair Friesland.

Specifically, what will you do?

• Support in areas such as administration, finances, loneliness & building social network, looking for work, discovering new hobbies etc.;
• Offering a listening ear;
• Assist in discussions with agencies such as VNN, Probation, Municipality etc.
• Undertaking social activities such as sports.
• Guarding own boundaries during counselling;
• Flexible response to changing circumstances.

Is this you?

You have a social heart and stand firmly on your feet and can therefore also guard your boundaries well. Naturally, you are empathetic and have good communication skills. Finally, you are able to adapt easily to changing circumstances, for example, being able to switch quickly if the appointment is rescheduled last minute.

Furthermore, we ask:

• Preferably experience working with clients with mild intellectual disabilities;
• 2 to 3 hours per week availability;
• Car and driving licence.
