Buddy for people living at home with dementia

The Odensemaatjes volunteer looks at the wishes and needs of people with dementia and their informal caregivers and looks for possibilities rather than impossibilities. In doing so, Odensemaatjes works together with the social network and, whenever possible, ties with the social network are re-established.

Activities are always tailor-made and in close consultation with those involved. Odensemaatjes employ volunteers from a diversity of cultural backgrounds, also to offer recognition to people with both Frisian and non-Frisian roots.

The goals Odensemaatjes has set itself are:

To demonstrably improve the quality of life of people with dementia and their informal carers.
Unburdening informal carers by taking over tasks, providing psychosocial support and strengthening the social network around the informal carer and the person with dementia.
Provide support in initiating additional assistance and easing transition moments.
Building a trusting relationship with the participants so that all involved can enjoy and be vulnerable to each other.
