City Monastery Leeuwarden, Jabixhûs

Information about this organisation

The Jabixhûs is an interdenominational community, where hospitality, reflection and creativity play a major role. With a group of friends, we converted an old school in Leeuwarden into a City Monastery. Because the route to Santiago (Jabikspad in Frisian) runs through Leeuwarden and we also wanted to create a welcoming place for pilgrims and other adventurers, we named it the Jabixhûs. The x central, because the desire is for Christ to be central.

Stop by and get inspired! The Jabixhûs Foundation uses a number of rooms in the Jabixhûs for meeting and reflection activities. Another room houses a Pilgrims' Guesthouse with two rooms, run by the owners of the building. They themselves live in the two remaining classrooms. The Jabixhûs is in the Zeehelden neighbourhood just outside the city canal, close to the centre of Leeuwarden.

Jeannet is the creative brain behind the decoration and atmosphere of the building. She already cooked for the volunteers at the Flevofestival, now she enjoys cooking for groups and organising workshops. She is secretary of the Jabixhûs foundation. Lieuwe is the one whose friendly hospitality makes everyone feel welcome and who in no time starts nice personal conversations.
