Denova Foundation
Objective
Denova Foundation aims to end poverty in the De Nova neighbourhood. De Nova is a community of about 500 people on the outskirts of the village of Rawsonville in South Africa.
Mission
Ending poverty means:
- Residents have sufficient income for food/drink, shelter, transport, education, health expenses and recreation.
- Residents live in well-built houses with plumbing with hot/cold water in the house, electricity and internet.
- In the village, facilities include: good medical care, good schools, sports/music and arts opportunities, public transport, childcare and a training centre.
Vision
Our work is long-term and on a small scale. Our guiding principles are:
- Local people determine what is needed.
- Financial support and assistance goes directly to the resident(s) who need it.
Core values:
Sustainability. We make a long-term commitment to the De Nova neighbourhood and, in addition, we seek to fund projects that contribute to fighting poverty in the longer term
Family/community. The genesis of Denova Foundation comes from a community that cares for each other as one family.
Self-determination. We respect that the people know what it takes to improve wellbeing in the community.
