Caretaker/Concierge

In the good old days, supermarkets were small, cosy grocery stores where the cash register actually rang and groceries passed over the counter in paper cone bags. In the heart of Leeuwarden, such an authentic grocery shop still exists, housed in a seventeenth-century building. From Tuesday to Sunday, the Grutterswinkel comes back to life, with hostesses/gentlemen walking around to welcome the many visitors. Visitors can take a look around the Grutterswinkel, buy products from the old days and enjoy a piece of orange cake and/or real Fryske Dúmkes.

Your duties may include:

• When necessary/possible to open and close the shop.
• Perform light maintenance work, such as replacing lamps and repairing defects.
• Signalling major maintenance work and liaising with the property owner about it
• Simple repairs.
• Paper and waste container management.
• Hand-and-towel services, such as toilet paper change, towel change and shopping.
• Gutter cleaning and flat roof inspection
• If you want, you can also help in shop-restaurant service.
• Etc.

The Grutter Shop offers a friendly and unique working environment with motivated fellow volunteers. In December, there is a cosy end-of-year meeting and of course you get a Christmas package. In addition, you are insured for liability during your voluntary work.

You have a lot of freedom in carrying out your work and on which days/times you do so. If you like to work (mainly) alone, you are welcome after closing time, and if you like having some people around you, you can do (most of) your work during opening hours.

The Grutter Shop is looking for a handy volunteer with a sense of responsibility. Being able to start at short notice is an advantage.
