Volunteers More Trees Now Friesland
Description
Will you help us save trees?
More Trees Now rescues underprivileged seedlings for a second chance. Every tree makes hundreds of seedlings every year. Most of these do not survive. By scooping out these seedlings together and giving them away for free to citizens, farmers, food forests and outdoorsmen who want to plant, we can green the Netherlands faster and more fun! We only do this in the cold months, roughly from October to March, when trees are dormant. Since 2020, we have transplanted more than a million trees and shrubs. We are active in every province, and since October, as regional coordinator of Friesland, I get to expand our root system in our beautiful province.
For information on what we do, why we do it and how we do it, please visit the website: http://www.meerbomen.nu. Through the website, you will also find the Frisian calendar of activities and a link to the Tree Planner, our online platform from which we organise everything.
What does the organisation offer the volunteer?
In Leeuwarden, we will continue with six harvest days in February to save tree saplings. Most of these will be distributed on 2 March at the last national distribution day of this season. On a harvest day, we carefully stake out the underprivileged trees, which we do in agreement with the municipal managers. These saplings are underprivileged because, for example, they are in the cutting path or too close to other trees. Harvest days are often cosy and fun days in nature. You learn to look at nature differently; nature gives us in excess and you get to know all kinds of different trees in winter mode. You do this together with other greenies, so you also get in touch with like-minded people.
To ensure the smooth running of the harvest days and distribution day, as regional coordinator Friesland I am still looking for helping hands! Do you feel appealed?
What does the organisation ask of the volunteer?
I am looking for several volunteers!
Tree Hub co-worker or tree hub manager
The tree hub is where we temporarily ensile harvested tree saplings. This prevents the roots from drying out and allows them to be replanted in a healthy way in a new location. At the tree hub in Leeuwarden, we need extra hands for, among other things, ensiling the harvest after harvest days and handing out seedlings at the distribution day on 2 March. Possibly you could even become a manager, in which case you would bear responsibility for organising the hub together with the regional coordinator.
Tree experts
You have knowledge of winter characteristics in young trees or seedlings. For example, you can tell by the buds and colour whether it is a young birch or dirt tree. At a harvest day, you can help identify, sort and count seedlings.
Drivers
You have a car with tow bar, appropriate driving licence and can drive a trailer. After harvest days or other activities, in this case you can help drive the seedlings from site to the tree hub or planting sites.
And of course bomenoogsters!
You help out on harvest days, register and sign up via the website for activities through our tree planner platform.
Are you interested or have any questions? Don't hesitate and send me an email message! I would love to think along with you, and find out if we can be of service to each other. You can reach me via friesland@meerbomen.nu
