Arcadia

Every three years, we turn Fryslân into a stage full of art, music, theatre, stories and encounters for a hundred days. You may remember us as European Capital of Culture. In 2018, the whole province was dedicated to art, culture and mienskip for a year. We worked together with artists, residents and makers to create a future-proof Fryslân that we could proudly pass on to the generations to come. That tasted like more. In 2022, we returned with the first edition of Arcadia: a hundred days of theatre, visual arts, music, dance, walks, poetry, conversations, encounters and more. Including a walking Bosk, in which more than 1,200 trees walked through Leeuwarden, we showed how art gets people moving.

In 2025, the Oldehoofsterkerkhof in Leeuwarden will be home to Bouwurk. Fryslân's mienskipshûs. A 70-day programme will be created in and around the building. It is also the place where another Arcadia project will start. Paradys. An art exhibition at various locations in the centre of Leeuwarden.
