Reading aloud, help with language and maths
Description
More and more children are growing up in a low (language) stimulating environment. This may be due to the language skills in Dutch of the parents themselves, but it may also be that parents are insufficiently capable of guiding their child.
As a volunteer, you will come to the family's home once a week to read aloud, provide language support or help with homework. Our support aims to strengthen children's language development and increase their vocabulary. This enables children to keep up better at school and in society.
Parents are involved in support as much as possible. We hope that by setting an example and involving parents in reading aloud and playing, parents will experience that they are an important link in their child's development. In addition, we also want to impart and let parents experience that parent and child activities are not only important for their child's development, but also for their mutual bond.
Our activity focuses on children between 2 and 12 years old.
There are two coordinators (volunteers) who take care of:
- Recruiting and supervising volunteers
- Intakes of families and thus getting clear on what support is needed
- An appropriate pairing between you as a volunteer and the family
What does the organisation offer the volunteer?
- An induction training and expertise training/courses
- Travel and expense allowance
- Guidance from a coordinator
- Liability insurance
- Accident insurance
What does the organisation ask of the volunteer?
You are flexible, can build rapport with children and empathise with children's lives.
For continuity and building a good contact with the family, we think it is important that you are available for a longer period of time.
