Wanted: Buddies for ex-prisoners and people with forensic titles

Would you like to make a difference in the life of someone who needs guidance? Become a buddy and support ex-prisoners in their return to society or people with a forensic title in their guidance programme in the Province of Friesland, approximately 2 to 3 hours per week.    As a volunteer, you will help with practical matters, lend a listening ear and contribute to a smoother reintegration or support process, depending on the situation. You will do this as part of the MEF project (Maatjes Ex-gedetineerden Friesland, or Buddies for Ex-Prisoners in Friesland), set up by Solidair Friesland.   What will you be doing specifically? Providing support in areas such as administration, finances, loneliness & building a social network, looking for work, discovering new hobbies, etc.; Offering a listening ear; Providing support during meetings with agencies such as VNN, Probation Service, Local Council, etc.; Undertaking social activities such as sports; Responding flexibly to changing circumstances. Alliade provides care and support to people with disabilities in Friesland. Volunteers play an important role in the lives of our clients. As a volunteer, you do what you like at times that suit you. This can vary a lot. We are looking for volunteers throughout Alliade who would like to visit a client or do something together with a client. After an introductory interview, you will be introduced to one of our locations in Leeuwarden or Stiens. This is followed by an introductory meeting with one of our clients. All of Alliade's clients have a mental disability. Several have other disabilities as well.

A 31-year-old resident of one of our locations in Stiens, is looking for a buddy who wants to do fun activities together once or twice a month. At first, this will mainly involve small, quiet activities to get to know each other. By playing a game or building with lego (the complicated variety). Furthermore, sir likes to take walks and you make him happy with outings to, for instance, the museum or the cinema. Later, this can possibly be extended to swimming/snorkelling/diving, or other activities he likes.

He has various interests such as gaming, lego and reptiles, but also adapts easily if you want to talk about other interests. Mr works on Tuesdays and Fridays and on one of his days off would like to go out with someone who, for example, wants to go for a walk, cycle, swim or have a drink somewhere with him.

Due to her blindness and her limited Dutch language, Ms has little contact with the other residents. The organisation is looking for someone who speaks the Bulgarian language so that Ms can communicate in her own language.
